Our first Big Ideas for Young Minds event for secondary students unpacks misinformation – how it’s constructed, disseminated and, ultimately, believed.

• Political Cartoons with Megan Herbert, 10.20am–11.10am: Learn the art of political cartoons with Megan Herbert and see how satire can highlight truths.
• Navigating Social Media with Sushi Das, 11.20am–12.10pm: Build your critical thinking skills when navigating social media with Sushi Das. Explore different types of online content, why it’s spread and how to avoid being fooled.
• Dissecting the News with Sami Shah, 1.00pm–1.50pm: Dissect the news with comedian Sami Shah and learn how to decide for yourself what news you can trust.

• Sami Shah, Pakistani-Australian comedian, critically-acclaimed author and broadcaster, lecturer at the University of Melbourne, and curator of OzAsia Festival’s Weekend of Words.
• Sushi Das, award-winning British-Australian journalist, recognised with two Melbourne Press Club Quill Awards, author and current Lecturer at RMIT University.
• Megan Herbert, award-winning cartoonist, writer, broadcaster and event illustrator, recipient of the Museum of Australian Democracy’s Political Cartoonist of the Year Award and editorial cartoonist for The Age and Sydney Morning Herald.
