Join Titanic’s Oscar-winning costume designer and Bright Horizons jury member Deborah L. Scott as she shares stories from her remarkable career in this hour-long masterclass.
You may not realise it, but you’re already familiar with Deborah L. Scott’s work. Scott is responsible for some of the most iconic and instantly recognisable costumes in American cinema history, from Elliott’s red hoodie in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) and Marty McFly’s orange puffer vest in Back to the Future (1985), to Rose’s elegant boarding outfit (Titanic 1997) and the one-of-a-kind costumes in Avatar (2009) and Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), handmade from shells, leather, flax and other natural world materials. Scott was recently honoured as recipient of the 2023 Costume Designers Guild Career Achievement Award. Serving as a jury member in MIFF’s Bright Horizons competition this year, Scott’s extraordinary filmography also includes Who’s That Girl (1987), Legends of the Fall (1994), Heat (1995), The Patriot (2000), Minority Report (2002), Love & Other Drugs (2010) and many more. She is currently working on the third Avatar instalment.
