The remarkable tale, based on a true story, of a mass whale stranding in a remote corner of lutruwita / Tasmania and the folk who went in to save them.
Drawn originally from verbatim sources, the extraordinary efforts and bravery of Tasmanian locals, anglers, park rangers and state-wide emergency services is told in this gripping new Australian story brought to you by the Green Room award-winning team of storymakers at The Space Company.
This dramatic “on-the-edge-of-your seat” production from creative producer Joel Carnegie (Stardust) and writer James Jackson (Paradise Lost, The Nose) combines drama with humour, poetry, and live music to highlight the spirit of a remote community banding together – and what can be achieved in the face of adversity.
Directed by Katy Maudlin (IPHIS and SLAP. BANG. KISS), starring Louise Siversen (Heartbreak Choir, House Husbands, Prisoner) and Natalie O’Donnell (Come From Away, Next to Normal) and Matu Ngaropo (Hamilton Australia) with a captivating live musical soundscape from Xani Kolac.
HELLS GATES was produced and rehearsed on Wadawurrung Country, with extensive research conducted on the lands of the palawa people (lutruwita / Tasmania). The Space Company respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live, work, play and create.
