We all look up at the same night sky, but we don’t all see the same thing. In this captivating and family-friendly talk, astrophysicist and Wiradjuri woman Dr Kirsten Banks invites you to reimagine the cosmos. Starting with familiar constellations like Orion and the Southern Cross, Kirsten gently unpacks the Western view of the stars before shifting the lens to reveal the profound simplicity and depth of Aboriginal sky knowledge. Through story and science, she weaves a rich tapestry of culture, connection, and cosmic understanding that has guided First Nations peoples for tens of thousands of years. This is more than a lesson in astronomy, it’s an invitation to see the universe through a different, and deeply powerful, perspective.

This session is part of the Beaker Street Main Stage at Hobart City Hall. Enter through Market Place, where you’ll find drinks, food, fires, and friendly strangers. Come early, stay late to enjoy all the action.
