Rainbow Futures WA and Edith Cowan University (ECU) invite you to the inaugural IDAHOBIT Lecture, bringing together researchers, community leaders, and advocates to explore how LGBTIQA+ First Nations advocacy is being translated into meaningful, community-led change.
Held in recognition of International Day Against LGBTIQA+ Discrimination (IDAHOBIT), this
event centers the 2026 global theme, “At the heart of democracy.” The 2026 IDAHOBIT
theme serves as a powerful reminder that the soil of truly democratic societies must be rich
in meaningful equity and justice for all, fostering the flourishing of the entire community.
Our keynote speaker for the evening is Narelda Jacobs OAM, a queer Whadjuk Noongar
journalist, presenter, commentator, speaker, MC and well-known supporter of the LGBTIQA+
community. The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion facilitated by Dr Misty
Farquhar OAM, with leaders working across research, policy, and community practice:
- Professor Braden Hill, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Students and Education, ECU
- Tanesha Bennell, Aboriginal Community Organiser, Rainbow Futures WA/WAAC
- Kurtis Makuru, The Westerman Jilya Institute for Indigenous Mental Health
- Narelda Jacobs OAM, Channel 10
