We are the kill-joys your ex-boyfriend warned you about, destroying unrealistic expectations one smile at a time. Enter an explosion of sequins, circus and irreverence backed up by an all-star live band. KillJoy dances with truth and fantasy, politics and reality, sexuality and secrets. Come join the evolution!
With a cast comprised of infamous Melbourne feminists, performance artists and one neuro-scientist – KillJoy is the long-awaited collaboration of hearts and minds of Cat Scobie, Mahla Bird and Amy Broomstick (Bam Bam). Through exchange of personal stories – our secrets of survival – Killjoy invites audiences behind the curtain to interrogate the power dynamic at play in questions of objectification, possession, violence, freedom, redemption, and responsibility; and to share in the secret stories that unite us through them.
As the cracks in the traditional conception of femininity are pried open, we find the threads of solidarity that connect us in our difference. Above all, KillJoy is a manifesto of the richness, the complexity, and the humanity of the feminine persona. As complex as can be told by only 3 queer women, KillJoy is an investigation of entitlement and power, a claiming of space, and an unapologetic call to arms.
