We’re hosting an event to launch the Boroondara Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2024-28. Councillors endorsed the Plan in December 2023, and we’re pleased to unveil the designed version at the launch.
This event will celebrate and acknowledge the contributions of people with disability to our Plan and community.
The event will be held at the Chandelier Room at Hawthorn Arts Centre, and includes the following highlights:
- A keynote speech by Mel Spencer OAM. Mel is a fierce Autistic advocate and a parent to 3 Autistic teenagers. She identifies as Autistic herself and is committed to ensuring that the world is more accepting of the Autism community. She’ll discuss how to make our community more inclusive for people with disability.
- A showcase of 13 artworks by people with disability. We commissioned QArt Gallery and Studio by Endeavour Foundation to create artworks inspired by the Plan’s vision. These will be featured in the designed version of the Plan. QArt is a social enterprise based in Kew that provides employment, mentoring? and training for artists with disability.
- Artists from QArt sharing their experiences of being part of the project and the meaning behind their artworks.
- An opportunity to learn more about the actions we’re taking to make Boroondara more accessible and inclusive.
Following the launch, see the artworks on display in the Camberwell Library corridor from 17 May to 28 June.
