Mama Alto is a voice that defies gender: the Countertenor Diva. Intoxicating, ethereal and bewitching, this is a cabaret about fragility and power – of the diva, of the voice, and of the human heart. Returning from an award-winning 2014 three state tour, Countertenor Diva is a stunning song cycle on the concept of the diva.
Through complex layers of song, gesture and performativity, the diva identity is explored: storyteller, force of nature, phenomenon, and vulnerable human being.
Winner, Best Cabaret – Fringe Weekly, Week 4 (Adelaide Fringe) 2014
Nominee, Best Cabaret – BankSA Award (Adelaide Fringe) 2014

“The strength that is found in the words is genuine, and the emotions experienced hurl the audience through the life of a ‘sexually and racially ambiguous’ chanteuse.” – Harry Hughes, The Music
