Tiny Plays. Many Voices. Big Impact.
Play For Australia is a bold gathering of many theatrical voices presented in a season of curated, ultra-short 600 word plays. Patricia Cornelius, John Romeril, Ross Mueller, Candy Bowers and many more established and emerging writers explore who we are and who we could be as a nation in this newly commissioned work for Melbourne Fringe.
An exciting pilot project, Play For Australia subverts the norm of one voice on the stage by delivering immediate and dynamic engagement with the daring ideas of 12 individual writers from diverse backgrounds.
The plays are a timely and powerful response to how the themes of national identity are reflected on our stage and in the street.
Play For Australia is an original concept by James Lawson based on the very successful Tiny Plays for Ireland by Fishamble Theatre, Dublin. 6 Actors, 2 directors, 12 writers and a dramaturg rehearse over a period of 4 days and will present the works to an intimate audience. Please note, actors will have script in hand.
The performances are followed by a post-show discussion with the writers, actors and audience in what is a provocative invitation to question the future of our nation.
