This heartwarming tale as part of the Sydney Fringe Festival is inspired by Rowena’s own mother who was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s almost 20 years ago.
Shaky M has waited twenty-three years, three months and sixteen days to be rescued. Now she’s decided to become her own hero, tell her story, and make the ultimate mix tape.
The Unstoppable, Unsung Story of Shaky M explores the tragi-comic and deeply isolated world of a woman held captive by her own body and her imaginative quest to set herself free. With a cheeky nod to the time before Marty McFly began to shake too, Shaky M is brought to life by Melbourne-based performer Rowena Hutson. The show uses elements of physical theatre, clowning and puppetry to plunge us into the world of a woman living and coping with loneliness, illness and isolation through humour and some sweet 80s Pop, and ultimately reminds us to laugh (and dance) in the face of adversary.
