A new work exploring what it means to be in your 20s now, full of anxiety and joy
_It’s too easy to not talk to a single person_
_I’m still young but I’m already reminiscing_
_People are flaky and will always cancel last minute, I did that last night but that’s totally different, I had a good reason_
The weather app, on my phone, at a party tackles the quintessential feelings of isolation and loneliness that come with transitioning into adulthood. Quirky and absurdist, it asks the question: ‘does it get any better?’
Devised by the EMBOLDEN Ensemble at St Martins Youth Arts Centre, this new work interrogates what we owe each other and what we owe ourselves, and why these things seem to be in conflict with one another. Created by young people who are navigating (with little success) the pivotal moment of change in their lives, this performance is full of anxiety and joy, comedy and melancholy.
Maybe we all might just have to accept that crying on your birthday is part of life.
