UNMODERATED: SANAM MAHER ON SEX –

THE GAUNTLET SERIES

In three separate sessions, we feature three clear-eyed non-fiction thinkers. Each will take to the stage for an hour to riff on a theme and throw down the gauntlet.

Sex: Sanam Maher is a Pakistani journalist and one of the most important feminist voices of her generation.  Her book about the murder of Qandeel Baloch – a woman who became famous for the sexually provocative persona she cultivated –  examines the toxic mix of culture, sexism and digital celebrity so prevalent across a range of societies.  Join Maher as she talks about the meaning of Sex in one of the world’s most dynamic and complex countries, with a few pointers for thinking through Australia’s own challenges with gender and violence.

Unmoderated is a mini-lecture series set to provoke and challenge. Be prepared to have bubbles burst and your preconceptions unsettled.
